What kind of talks/performances are we looking for?

Though we are really and truly “freestyling” this event, just putting up a tent and mixing up some lemonade to see who might want to stop by, we thought it might be useful to give some more specific examples of what kinds of talks, performances, and other things we had in mind.

In my dream event, we might have,

  • A serious talk by a serious person about about the serious thing they’re passionate about. (For example, a friend of mine is an investigative journalist. I’d love for her to talk about her work.)

  • Musical performance (gorgeous expert stuff; a kid giving their first cello recital; a choral performance; a sing-along)

  • A teacher teaching something (how to tie a bowtie; how to start a garden; how to make personal protective equipment)

  • Poetry reading

  • Stand-up comedy

  • An author reading their work

  • Somebody teaching us how to make a decent flour tortilla

  • A nurse talking about what it’s like to actually treat COVID-19 patients

  • A vision for the future

  • A Black Lives Matter activist

  • A city mayor

  • The kids in my neighborhood who are making front-yard faerie gardens for each other out of dolls and shiny rocks

  • Leaders, founders, innovators (I know someone who is starting a new children’s museum in India!)

  • Talks/performances from all over the world, and from all kinds of people

In my mind it just goes on and on and on.

Does that help?

Don’t feel that you have to be an experienced speaker or performer! We’re just interested in you being you. And we’ll help you pull your ideas together if you like.

Check out the FAQ if you’re curious, or just go straight to the proposal form, or get in touch if you have any questions at all.

Spread the word too.
